Our Mission
To be a reliable source of information about food certification integrated into online ordering and restaurant directory services.
We are two brothers from Los Angeles trying to help people trust the food they buy online.
We both grew up keeping kosher at home and when eating out. We relied on local and national kosher certification organizations to trust which restaurants we could eat at and what products at the grocery store were ok.
Now we are building a way for people of all dietary needs (kosher, halal, vegan, gluten-free, & more) to be able to easily find food online that they can trust fits their standards.
Our Story
Once upon a time people shopped for food from their local grocer and ate food at their local restaurants in person, where they could verify food certifications printed on the products and in the windows of restaurants.
Everyday people relied on these certifications like kosher, halal, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and others to make decisions about what they could eat to fit their lifestyle.
Then along came online shopping with convenient delivery options like Amazon Fresh, Instacart, Uber Eats, DoorDash, and others which changed the way people discovered restaurants and ordered food.
One day while searching for kosher food on Uber Eats, Jacob realized that not all the search results were actually kosher certified and that the digital restaurant listing said to βcontact the merchant directly for confirmation.β
Because Uber Eats did not have reliable access to information about the food certifications that restaurants have, Jacob was not able to trust which restaurants were kosher. Even though many kosher restaurants pay thousands of dollars per month to be certified, this information is not available to their customers on digital platforms.
Because of the lack of access to information about food certification on digital platforms like Uber Eats, Jacob and others like him, were not able to find the food they wanted and did not end up purchasing any food.
Until finally, Jacob decided to solve this problem by starting the Certified Foods project to partner with food certifying organizations of all types to provide the data to online food platforms so that people of all dietary needs can easily find the food they need.
